Our Story
Our story began with a simple idea: to help people uncover the most incredible corners of the world.That was the driving force behind our umbrella brand, World Discovery, when it first stepped onto the travel scene in 2011. Over the years, we’ve covered different types of tours, from cycling holidays to luxury escapes, and of course – our favourite – hiking.
The hiking department standing proudly behind Hiking Tours consists of young, enthusiastic Slovenian hikers who spent most of their lives exploring our Alpine backyard. We know every nook and cranny of the trails that we first tackled as kids with our families and continued to explore well into adulthood.
Where We Started
Slovenians have a saying claiming that you are not a true Slovenian until you’ve reached the top of our highest mountain, Mt. Triglav.
And because every great story has to start somewhere, that’s where we began writing ours – with guided tours to Triglav, Slovenia’s highest peak, while offering self-guided options to more accessible peaks and hidden treasures within Triglav National Park.
Over the years, our dedication to providing the highest quality hiking tours turned into collaboration with every IFMGA-certified mountain guide in the country, personal relationships with local mountain huts and hotels, and most importantly, resulted in thousands of happy hikers.
However, although going on a guided hiking tour brings a lot of added value to your hike, we knew from personal experiences that exploring at your own pace is invaluable.
That is why we soon shifted our focus to self-guided tours for those who crave independence and flexibility.
Our First Major Success
Before we knew it, we became the number one hiking agency in Slovenia.
And we never let go of our adventurous spirit.
Most of us spent their free time exploring beyond borders, bringing new inspiration, stunning pictures and personal recommendations to the office.
Our expansion was gradual, beginning with our neighboring countries. First, it was the rugged Dolomites and the legendary Alta Via trails in Italy.
The picturesque Adlerweg in Austria quickly followed, and so did the iconic Stubai High Trail. Within a year, we covered all our favorites across Europe, including Switzerland, the Pyrenees, Norway, the underrated Slovakia and Iceland.
How We Grew
Before we knew it, our accumulated knowledge covered more than half of the continent’s best hiking destinations.
With people consistently reaching out and inquiring about new destinations, we knew we couldn’t stop there. Our passion grew with every successful tour, and we decided to expand our team to bring a new level of diversity to our hiking tours.
Our team grew exponentially over the last couple of years.
We wanted to offer something for everyone, and a wave of new energy, along with a team of people with different preferences and hiking experiences brought exactly what we were looking for.
Although we initially focused on mountain hikes and classic treks well-known by those who have spent a fair amount of time on the trails, we found that people were also eager for easier, more leisurely hikes that were accommodating to beginners, as well as hiking tours that cater to families and those looking for a more comfortable experience.
We brought on a couple of adventurers as well, ensuring that solo hikers and those looking for something off the beaten path will not be left out. We created tours specifically for advanced hikers looking for a challenge, and chose our bestsellers to make sure you don’t miss out on the best trails out there.
Why We Do What We Do
Over the years, we got to know what our clients are looking for – authentic experiences, beautiful trails, new challenges and the peace of mind that comes with someone handling all logistics for you.
Because at the heart of everything, our goal has not changed. We want to help people experience the magic of nature on their own terms.
We’re all about making these experiences accessible and comfortable. How do we do it? By doing the hard work ourselves.
We spent ages researching every nook and cranny of the trails, perfecting every little detail, and then testing it out – just to make sure it’s as incredible as it can be.
We’ve worked out the logistics, created GPS routes for all of our tours, found the best possible accommodations along the way and focused on the highlights that will make every hike unforgettable.
Where We Are Today
Today, we are happy to look back at our beginnings and see how far we’ve come.
Hiking Tours is a culmination of years of work, exploration, evaluating reviews and listening to fellow hikers who came on this journey with us.
We are proud to say we now offer over 250 incredible hikes on 4 continents – from the world’s favorite mountain hiking trails to memorable coastal hikes, treks through the Alps, transformative pilgrimages and heritage tours for those who wish to immerse themselves in local history.
We have remained true to our original mission and continue to collaborate with local communities, ensuring you have a worry-free hiking experience and the opportunity to explore the most incredible corners of the world.
