Amalfi to Sorrento Walking Holidays

Today's itinerary takes you through the picturesque countryside of the Amalfi Coast. Start by visiting the Valle dei Mulini to see the remains of Europe's oldest paper factories. Then, head to the charming village of Pontone for a picnic at Torre dello Zirro and enjoy the spectacular views of Amalfi and Atrani.

Next, you will explore the lovely town of Ravello, where you can admire the stunning Romanesque church and take in even more breathtaking views from the gardens of villas Rufolo and Cimbrone. Finally, you will make your way through the unique town of Atrani before returning to Amalfi.

Finally, you'll head back to Amalfi, following a scenic mule track through lemon groves and marquis, with a gentle grade that makes the hike easy and enjoyable.

Today's journey is slightly challenging but worth it for the breathtaking views. You'll hike along the Maestra dei Villaggi, a historic 9th-century mule track, passing charming villages, the impressive Santa Rosa Monastery, and scenic churches.

You can stop for lunch at a local restaurant at the stunning fjord of Furore before continuing your ascent through the uncultivated Valley of Praia and past a house once occupied by a local wizard. As you descend to Praiano, take in the picturesque inlet, Marina di Praia, and its natural beaches.

Your fifth day begins by heading uphill through the streets of Praiano towards the charming church of San Luca. From there, an easy path leads you to the lush Valley of Praia, dotted with vineyards hanging from the cliffs. As you climb steeply to the Santa Barbara caves, take a detour to the alpine-like village of Bomerano for a coffee break.

Then, head on the renowned Path of the Gods, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the island of Capri in the distance. The path winds back to Praiano, taking you over centuries-old steps, some of which may be steep.

The day's journey starts on a pilgrimage trail that takes you up to the San Domenico monastery, situated on a hillside with stunning views of the coastline. You can pause here to soak in the breathtaking scenery before continuing uphill, surrounded by diverse rock formations and lush vegetation.

The last stretch of the Path of the Gods offers awe-inspiring vistas of the sea, Praiano, Positano, and Capri. You will hike through scenic valleys to reach the small village of Nocelle and then proceed to the charming Montepertuso village, where you can choose your descent to the picturesque Positano.

Today, you'll hike through the forest on ancient footpaths, taking in breathtaking viewpoints and some cliffside walking. Your destination is the Santa Maria al Castello, an ancient fortress guarding the valley between the Amalfi and Sorrentine peninsulas.

Along the way, you will admire the stunning engineering of the "Tse-Tse'' steps, offering views of both the Gulf of Salerno and the Gulf of Naples. Enjoy a leisurely trail through a park-like landscape and wooded area to reach the foresters' house, Caserna Forestale. You will then continue through the forest with a series of descents to Montepertuso and finally take a medieval mule track down to Positano.

On this day, you will travel by bus to Sorrento, where you can spend the day exploring the charming streets, taking in views of the Gulf of Naples, or relaxing on the beach. Alternatively, you can visit Pompeii and discover the world's most intriguing Roman excavation, including the historical town center and the famous cathedral.

Another option is to take a short walk to the Roman Villa of Pollio and enjoy stunning views over the Gulf of Naples. The villa boasts a natural spring, Bagni Regina Giovanna, and a private beach, ideal for a swim.

The day begins with a bus ride to Termini, the last village on the Amalfi peninsula, where you will follow a path leading up to the small San Costanzo chapel, providing views over the Gulfs of Salerno and Naples and Monti Lattari above Positano.

You will follow a rough, rocky trail along the cliffs of Finis Terrae, offering stunning views of Capri and the Ieranto peninsula. Descend through disused terraces and scree to reach Punta Campanella, home to a restored stone watchtower, a temple, and a villa dedicated to Athena and Minerva.

The return path to Termini is more pleasant, and those looking for an extension can visit Nerano and the picturesque Bay of Ieranto. Explore the open-air agricultural and quarrying museum and swim before returning to Sorrento by bus.

On the last day of your walking adventure, you will discover the charming Capri Island, known for its breathtaking location and mild weather since ancient Roman times. This day's hike has a few steps, but not as many as the previous days.

You'll have a chance to explore the island's famous landmarks, such as the Piazzetta, where you may mingle with celebrities, and the Faragliani, a set of three sea stacks. Wander through the village center's narrow streets, visit the Villa Clovis, the villa of Emperor Tiberius, and take a tour of the well-preserved Roman remains for a small fee.

You'll also see the natural arch that overlooks the sea and grottos, visit the Monastery of San Giacomo and the Augustus Gardens, and choose to shop, relax, or have lunch by the sea in Marina Piccola. Return to Marina Grande to catch your return boat to Sorrento and relish in the island's charm without being caught in the hustle and bustle of mass tourism.
